About the Event

Doris Fields, Lady D, is a nationally celebrated R&B, soul, jazz and blues singer-songwriter from West Virginia.  She is known for her powerful vocals, dynamic performances, and contributions to the state’s music culture. Her professional career of over two decades has included performances with her own band, original musical works, and opening for other famous bands and dignitaries. She has authored a stage play, "The Lady and the Empress", based on the musical legend Bessie Smith.  She has authored a book of poetry, Appalachian Blues Speaker and more recently is very successful in painting and creating visual arts.   

“Recognized as West Virginia’s First Lady of Soul, Lady D continues to inspire through her music, mentorship, and community involvement. Her work preserves the state’s rich musical heritage while promoting the blues, jazz, and soul traditions to new generations.”  says the WVU History Center.
